Breathing is more than just a basic function—it’s a powerful tool for relaxation and stress relief. Deep, controlled breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, signaling the body to relax and lowering stress hormones like cortisol. Techniques such as diaphragmatic breathing (belly breathing) and nasal breathing help slow the heart rate, improve oxygen flow, and create a sense of calm. Simply inhaling deeply through the nose and exhaling slowly through the mouth can ease tension and clear the mind.

Incorporating mindful breathing into daily routines can enhance both mental and physical well-being. Practices like box breathing (inhale 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds, exhale 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds) or 4-7-8 breathing promote relaxation and better sleep. This why we use intentional breathing to help us in Stretch Therapy. The exhale breath enhances relaxation and helps us to "let go" as we move into a stretch. Some clients even find they can breath better after Stretch sessions which may be due to less restriction, better posture or simply due to being more relaxed.
